Last weekend the Wagga & District Champion of Champions Pairs was played at Yerong Creek Bowling Club. This pitted all the club pairs champions from the district to find the District champion.
In Round 1 (quarter-final) the winners were: Dennis Rawlings/Gary Brookes Rules Wagga 16-15 over Tim Driscoll/Keith Wilson The Rock, Greg & Chris Guthrie Coolamon 21-20 over Clinton Trevaskis (sub for Jesse Shilo)/Steve Johnstone.
Also on Saturday afternoon in the semi-final after receiving a bye in the quarter-final Ian Cooper/Warren Charlton defeated Heath & Darren Walker by 18-17.
On Sunday morning in freezing conditions Gary Brookes defeated Chris Guthrie 18-15.
So the final is to be played between the teams of Dennis Rawlings/Gary Brookes Rules Club & Ian Cooper/Warren Charlton Junee.
The final was a game for the ages. The Junee boys jumped out of the blocks to lead 10-0 but the Rules boys fought back to be just one shot behind 10-11 on the 12th end. Junee held the upper hand with their nose in front leading 16-13 on 18 ends. The 19th end was a dead heat with two bowls resting on the jack. On the 20th end Rules picked up three shots to be just one shot behind 15-16 playing the last end. Junee picked up a three to win the final by 19-15.
